ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHAM) – On Nov. 12, Victoria Jobson would have been celebrating her 63rd birthday.
Instead, her children sat in a courtroom in Monroe County, New York, facing one of the two men accused of killing their mother.
“I can’t,” Kurtis Jobson responded when asked to describe his mother. “I’m not able to outside of stories or pictures or other people’s memories.”
“He was robbed. He was just a little guy,” Keisha Washington, Victoria Jobson’s daughter said of her brother. “He was only 5 years old when mom was murdered.”
Victoria Jobson, the mother of two children who was in her 30s at the time, was reported missing in October 1992 by her family.
Her body was found weeks later, on Dec. 7, in a vacant field on Rutter Street.
Nearly 32 years later, 59-year-old Arthur Jason Jr. and a second unidentified suspect have been charged with Victoria Jobson’s murder.
“We have to just figure out exactly how they came in contact with Mr. Jason,” defense attorney Michael Schiano said. “Evidently, they talked to him back in 2006 and 2009, and again, they didn’t arrest him back then, and now 20-odd years later, they arrested him.”
Schiano is the attorney appointed to represent Jason.
“In the early stages, we want to take a look at all the evidence and see exactly how they came to the conclusion to arrest Mr. Jason,” Schiano added.
As for the second suspect, the unidentified man is still in custody in Canada. Authorities are working to bring him back to Rochester.
In the meantime, Victoria Jobson’s children have a heartfelt message for their mother.
“It’s not coincidental that we’re standing in the courthouse on her birthday,” Washington said. “Happy birthday, mom. We’re OK.”
