TAZEWELL, Va. – Anyone in Tazewell or surrounding counties will have until Saturday to file a claim with the FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) office in Tazewell.

That office, at 197 Main Street, will close at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The office was opened shortly after Hurricane Helene hit this area, offering residents who experienced damages from Helene a place to apply for federal assistance.

Proof of residency, insurance information, storm damage pictures and banking information are needed for applying for financial help.

Several counties in Southwest Virginia, including Tazewell and Giles, have already been declared federal disaster areas, opening the way for FEMA funding.
