Kate Cooper is “thrilled” to still be at the top of the table but has warned her stars not to take it for granted.
The St Mirren Women’s head coach has seen her team at the SWF League One summit for eight consecutive weeks.
It has been a whirlwind of a season after a major rebuild in the summer with many of the players having never played at this level of the game before.
And Cooper said: “We have known it was going to be a tight league from the start.
“We also know that everybody is now chasing us. For us, we are just focused on ourselves and what we can do best for the team. It is great, and we are absolutely thrilled to be sitting at the top as results have gone our way when we weren’t playing.
“But games in hand don’t count. So, you can never count on those points.”
St Mirren will be hosting Airdrie at Mossedge Village this Sunday. There are two games to go for the Buddies before their winter break and going in on the run of form they are on is the aim for Cooper.
She admits that the next two games will be “really tough” but backs her side to come out on top.
She added: “To have Airdrie and then Armadale [Thistle] coming up before the break will be competitive and tough games. Then on our first game back in January we have Bonnyrigg [Rose].
“It will be a really busy winter period for us but I believe that focusing on what we are doing and taking a game at a time, as well as preparing ourselves properly we will be there or there abouts.
“I know that this team are capable of staying at the top and building on that gap. The players are over the moon with the feeling in the camp being buoyant, with players enjoying their football.
“They know what can happen with outside noise – the SMiSA game showed that – so we will aim to learn from that and push on.”
