ATHENS, W.Va. – A ribbon cutting was held for the opening of the university’s recreation court.
This former tennis court has been turned into a court for tennis, basketball, and pickleball.
It’s been three years in the making with Concord University Alumni Association raising twenty thousand dollars for the project.
Renovations took less than three months to complete.
We spoke to the president of Concord University, and she hopes this new court will benefit not just to students and staff but also to the community.
“This is wonderful. The kids need something to do at night, run off some energy after being in classes all day long,” said Kendra Boggess. “It’s been great and it’s available to people in the community also. They can go to our student center and rent the pickleball equipment and the tennis equipment and come over and play.”
The university hopes this new court will promote physical wellness, recreation, social connection, for student and staff, and for Concord University’s commitment to serve as a community anchor for Athens.
