MORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) – A college at West Virginia University is offering a new bachelor’s degree program for students to complete while serving in the military.

The WVU Reed School of Media and Communications is making current and future military members aware of the new program, which provides flexibility and discounts for Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) students to complete their degrees online.

The program is part of the school’s partnership with the Department of Defense’s Defense Information School (DINFOS), which was established in 2012. Originally, the school created an IMC master’s degree program. But now, they’re offering a bachelor’s degree program, as well,

The entire program is online and allows for courses to be completed anytime, anywhere in the world, officials said.

Many students have told school officials that they are applying what they’re learning in their military careers.

The program also provides opportunities for students to one day reenter civilian life with employment opportunities, which can be challenging for veterans with long military careers, officials said.

The IMC program also has a flexible transfer policy, officials said. Advisors work directly with each student to review their military transcript and apply all applicable credits toward WVU coursework.

“I’ll be able to combine over 20 years of practical experience with a solid academic background, giving me an advantage in both military and civilian roles. The IMC program has equipped me with knowledge and skills that will remain relevant and valuable wherever my career takes me,” said Alexandra Longfellow, an undergraduate IMC student and DINFOS alumna who has served in the Air Force as a photographer and public relations specialist for 18 years.
