With just 47 days until Christmas, it’s safe to say that there are going to be many out there that are beginning preparations for the holidays.
If you’re anything like me, then you’ll be looking for a decent advent calendar to really get into the festive spirit. Of course, as a beauty lover, it’s no surprise that I have always gone for one that allows me to stock up my cosmetics bag.
While there are many luxurious beauty advent calendars from the likes of Sephora UK and Rituals, there are many other affordable options. One is the Magical 2024 Advent Calendar from popular high street brand Revolution Beauty.
Exclusively available to Superdrug, this glitzy advent calendar is packed to the brim with 24 “unmissable” products that range from cosmetics to beauty brushes. Even better, it’s included in the Black Friday sale for 25 percent less, reduced to £30 from £40.
If you’re wondering whether to take advantage of the Black Friday deal, then I have unboxed the entire advent calendar to see if it is worth your hard earned pay cheque ahead of Christmas. Let’s just say, it’s got a few standouts that were worth a mention.
Glitzy Christmas packaging
The Revolution Magical Advent Calendar looks just like how you’d expect a calendar with the word ‘magical’ to look like. Boasting the brand’s signature glittery pink, purple and gold colour scheme that makes it instantly recognizable and eye-catching.
Unlike a few other calendars I have had in the past, this one features an entirely different design. Unlike the classic ‘doors’ style that you open, Revolution has provided individual boxes for each day that have been kept in place by a protective sleeve.
Personally, I liked this idea, as it was unique and added a fun touch to the unboxing, and I can imagine it will be like opening a Christmas gift each day in December. Some products were wrapped in bright magenta paper, adding to the overall ‘Christmas gift’ effect, which I found super cute.
However, I did find that I had one small issue with the packaging of the calendar, which was more of a personal gripe. Some products were packaged quite ‘tightly’ inside their boxes, which meant they could be hard to get out and resulted in me ripping open more than one box.
A treasure trove of Christmas party essentials
When I managed to unbox all 24 boxes, what I found was a treasure trove of mini and full-size beauty must-haves that would make any Revolution lover proud. From eyeshadow palettes and lipliners to blending sponges and brushes, it included pretty much everything.
Unlike quite a few options I have had in the past, this calendar pretty much ensures you won’t need to stock up your beauty bag anytime soon. Said to be worth an incredible £91.47, Superdrug’s 25 percent off deal means you are essentially getting over £60 worth of popular products for less.
While the selection was plentiful, I definitely did have a few favourites. One of them was the mini Loose Baking Banana Powder, which I have used in the past. Not only is the shade perfect for someone with pale skin such as myself, but it also ‘sets’ your makeup without looking ‘cakey’ – which is a result for me.
I also adored the miniature version of the brand’s bestselling ‘Reloaded’ eyeshadow palette. With six pigmented natural and golden hues, it is perfect for popping into your Christmas party bag for that essential glitzy-eye look during the holidays.
As a woman who likes a bit of a ‘glow’, I was pleased to find that there were two highlighter powders included – Golden Gal and Raise the Bar. I particularly preferred the latter, which offered a highly pigmented ‘dazzling’ finish along the tops of my cheekbones.
For the lip aficionado’s, there’s the likes of lipsticks, lip liners and lip glosses, pretty much everything you need to perfect your party pout. However, for this winter weather, one item I know will be a constant in my handbag will be the Glaze Lip Oil.
Infused with hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, jojoba oil, and Shea butter, this lip oil ensures you’re lips are kept soft and nourished, which is ideal for when the weather gets colder. Not to mention that its sweet cherry scent – and flavour – is delightful, and never tastes like you have smeared your lips in something artificial.
Lastly, one other item I was thoroughly impressed with was the Blush Bomb in the shade That’s Fly Nude. As a millennial, I love a bit of blush, but have struggled with cream blushers over the years, so I was surprised to find that this one was super pigmented and blended effortlessly with no patches whatsoever.
The verdict
Whether you need to stock up your beauty bag, or you’re looking to try Makeup Revolution for the first time, this advent calendar is sure to satisfy any beauty buff this Christmas.
It is packed full with a variety of mini and full-sized heroes from the popular beauty brand that will be ideal for creating your festive makeup looks this year. Not to mention that, unlike some calendars on the market, it doesn’t skimp on the variety included.
Since it also comes packed with accessories such as makeup brushes and blending sponges, it is pretty much offering you the whole package. And considering it is now down from £40 to £30 in Superdrug’s Black Friday, I’d consider it a deal worth buying while still available.
Add on its cute packaging that include a few gift wrapped products, it would make an adorable gift for any beauty and Revolution lover that you know.
Aside from the occasionally hard to open boxes, I couldn’t fault Revolution’s Advent Calendar. That being said, as you don’t know what is inside, some shoppers might find that the shades included might not be suited to their skin tone/preference, but that really is down to personal preferences.
You can buy the Revolution Magical 2024 Advent Calendar exclusively at Superdrug here.
Superdrug is not the only place offering discounts on beauty advent calendars ahead of Christmas. Over at Sephora, the Moving Lights Premium Advent Calendar is worth £177, but costs just £79.99 – and it comes with a free gift.
