Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell says the club is in a good position in the Premiership, but he’s in no mood to stand still.
Kettlewell will have his available players in and working hard over the international break this week and the Fir Park gaffer says growth and development is key to continuing the good run of form that has taken them to joint-fourth alongside Dundee United on 19 points, following last Saturday’s 2-1 win over St Johnstone.
“There’s loads to like,” said Kettlewell. “Overall, I think we’re seven points better off than we were last season, we’ve been to a national cup semi-final, there has been a large turnover of players, a lot of senior players who would be very much in my thoughts still in the treatment room.
“Without getting carried away, I think we’ve given ourselves a decent foundation and showed that there is a lot of progression.
“We probably find ourselves in a position in the league, and the number of points of teams that we’ve maybe no right to compete with, but we don’t see it that way. We’re always going to try and see if we can push those boundaries.
“Fortunately these players are absolutely doing that, but it’s all about that consistency.
“For those under-21 home-grown players, Ewan Wilson and Lennon Miller, I need to keep banging the drum on that, because we’re by far ahead of every other club in the top flight, which pleases me.
“These young players are experiencing the trials and tribulations of senior football, but they’re doing it very well at this point. You can see their growth and development.”
Motherwell aren’t back in action again until they travel to Ross County on November 23.
