Netflix have released a fun trailer for their newest dating show, and viewers are excited about one aspect in particular – the participants’ ages.
The Later Daters follows singletons in their 50s, 60s, and 70s as they try to fall in love again.
Executive produced by Michelle Obama, the eight-parter will introduce us to six baby boomers who are hoping to get their second chance at finding their special person.
Rather than doing it alone, they’ll have their children, close friends, and dating coach Logan Ury helping them navigate the complicated world of modern romance.
In the short teaser released earlier this week, we were given an insight into what is to come from the Atlanta-based series.
One woman declares she’s looking for a ‘hot Italian’, while another told a prospective love interest that her last two husbands had died. ‘Now, do you want to go out with me?’ she asked, with a laugh.
Although, the overall tone was that of joy showing the new reality stars enjoying dates in exotic locations, such as onboard luxury boats, it was also communicated how important it is to them all. ‘I’m just really afraid of being hurt,’ one dater bravely admitted.
The reaction to the trailer shows just how much people are ready to see a dating show about older people. Typically the genre focuses on younger generations with shows such as Love Is Blind, Married At First Sight and Love Island focusing on those in their twenties and thirties.
‘OMG I love this idea, looks adorable and should be normalized,’ commented HFXMermaid on YouTube. Jess-737 whole-heartedly agreed and shared an intention to reactive her Netflix account.
‘Love seeing our Seniors find love,’ declared kl.8992.
TiffanyLee3634 sweetly declared that the series is already giving her ‘hope’. Marjoriereyes3254 agreed, writing: ‘Later dating gives me hope being older our chances are slimmer unless we date younger partners. This will be interesting to watch.’
‘Love this dating concept. I’m a senior myself Michelle Obama is a genius producer,’ weighed in SableSenegal.
What is the format of The Later Daters?
Logan wil meet with the bachelors individually at their homes, where she’ll get an understanding of their story by speaking to them and their loved ones.
The dating expert, and Harvard-trained behavioral scientist, will then work with them to work through any potential obstacles, such as being emotionally closed off, or not being been able to move on from a spouse who has passed.
They will be set up on blind dates with potential compatible companions, with viewers being privy to the preparation and debriefs.
Will Anise, 62, Suzanne, 63, Nate, 56, Pam, 71, Lori, 57, and Greg, 61, find love? Only time will tell.
