Lauren Laverne is set to return to the BBC studio this month after announcing her cancer diagnosis in August.
Lauren, 46, who has been the host of Desert Island Discs since 2018, is set to return to radio just months after revealing she had been diagnosed with cancer.
After her time away from the studio it’s been announced that she’s set to start recording more shows this month to be released in December.
A BBC spokeswoman said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome Lauren back to the studio this month for The One Show and Desert Island Discs, with new episodes airing on Radio 4 from 1 December, and we look forward to welcoming Lauren back to BBC Radio 6 Music in the new year.’
Since August 11, Radio 4 has been airing extended and classical editions of Desert Island Discs, with the next episode featuring Lauren to air on December 1.
The presenter last appeared on the airwaves on August 15 when she presented her 6 Music show.
Taking over for her have been other hosts including Nick Grimshaw, Nemone Metaxas, and Deb Grant.
Lauren confirmed on August 21 she was in hospital after being diagnosed, but did not specify which type of cancer she was suffering from.
‘Right then, some personal news… I recently had a cancer diagnosis. It was (thank God) caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test and I am expected to make a full recovery,’ she wrote in a post on Instagram.
‘I’m in hospital at the moment and wanted to take this moment to say thank you: Firstly to the medical teams who have got me this far with incredible skill and kindness.
‘To my family and friends who have been absolutely extraordinary every step of the way – I am so very grateful and love you so much.
And of course thank you to my colleagues – including those at @itg_ltd, @bbc6music, @bbctheoneshow and #DesertIslandDiscs for their support – and for giving me the time off that I need to get better.’
In the same post, she then reached out to give a message to fans encouraging them to get tested and checked out when symptoms appear.
‘I also want to say that if you’re avoiding a test or putting off an appointment to get yourself checked out please, please do it today. Half of us will get cancer at some point, and if you do, finding out asap is everything.
‘It’s usually my job to bring the good vibes on air but any you have to spare are very much welcome here. Sending loads of love to anyone in a similar boat, or who has made it back to shore. xxx.’
She was supported by her fans and celebrity pals with messages of support from Dermot O’Leary, Vicky McClure, Clara Amfo and Myleene Klass who broke down in tears on Loose Women while discussing Lauren’s diagnosis.
