BLUEFIELD, Va. -In one local store, there was a very special guest reading a Christmas book to children.

The Corner Stone in the town of Bluefield welcomed families on Saturday for a story-time of the book Elf read by “Bob” the elf. There were snacks and an opportunity for kids to get a photo with Bob.

Vicki Mahood, the manager of The Corner Stone, says they plan to hold this event again and hopes it will grow. As for Bob, he says he enjoys the smiles and happiness he can bring to children and their parents.

“Anytime we can bring smiles and bring the community out here and bring smiles to children’s faces and parents faces and get ready for the holidays is a great time.” says Tom Carter, who portrayed Bob the elf.

Mahood hopes to encourage more parents to feel comfortable bringing their children to the store.

“One of the things that I really want to do is for moms to know that this is a wonderful place to shop and kid-friendly because a lot of places, they don’t want you to touch, they are afraid you’re going to break something. It’s very hard to shop with little ones, but we want people to know that little ones are welcome here and that it’s a great place to do that,” says Mahood.

Though this was the first time The Corner Stone has held an event like this, Mahood says it won’t be the last.
