The much-anticipated new series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here kicked off on Sunday night.
ITV audiences will watch celebrities like GK Barry, Oti Mabuse, Melvin Odoom and Jane Moore trade their creature comforts for the harsh realities of the Australian jungle.
Even though the show has just started, it seems there’s already a favourite to clinch the title. Bookmakers Betway have tipped Danny Jones as a potential King of the Jungle this year.
Mike Reading, a spokesperson for Betway, commented: “McFly seem to have the magic touch when it comes to reality TV, with bassist Dougie Poynter taking home the jungle crown in 2011, and drummer Harry Judd snagging the Strictly Come Dancing Glitterball Trophy the same year.”
However, as the episode got underway, viewers quickly took to Twitter to voice their opinions on this year’s cast, with many echoing similar sentiments, reports the Express.
One viewer tweeted: “Lol I literally don’t know who half these people are. “Another chimed in: “Literally who are these people… worst lineup ever?”
A third posted: “‘I don’t even know who half of these are, is this a sign of becoming old or?#ImACeleb'”
“I’m a (unknown) celeb is back… who are half of these people,” another questioned.
One more viewer remarked: “Frantically Googling the younger ones because I haven’t a clue who they are #feelingold”
While another commented: “So pleased that they are putting the celeb’s job title on their intro sequence, half of them I have no idea who they are?!”
As the programme began, ITV viewers watched the first five celebrities gather by a plush poolside villa.
Oti Mabuse, Tulisa Contostavlos, Dean McCullough, Jane Moore and Danny Jones had little time to acquaint themselves before being interrupted by five helicopters.
Making a grand entrance, Ant and Dec greeted the stars and promptly introduced them to the grim realities of I’m A Celeb life with a stomach-churning task.
The celebrities were informed they’d have to consume drinks made from blended bull’s penis and fish eye, garnished with vomit fruit.
The sequence in which they finished their drinks determined the order they would exit their helicopters and select one of the other five celebrities as their partner. Once paired up, they would compete in a race to become the camp leaders.
Who will emerge as this year’s inaugural camp leaders?
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! Continues weeknights on ITV from 9pm.
