Coleen Rooney was on the receiving end of her “Wagatha Christie” moniker, uttered directly to her by one of her campmates on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Here!
Radio 1 DJ Dean McCullough couldn’t resist unleashing her renowned nickname during the premiere episode of I’m A Celeb’s gruelling 2024 series on Sunday (November 17).
The wife of Wayne Rooney earned the title “Wagatha Christie” for her Agatha Christie-like sleuthing in a feud with fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy, when back in 2019 she executed a sting to unearth who among her circle was relaying private Instagram stories to the media.
Dean, following an epic entrance by skydive, found himself on terra firma having to choose between partnering up with Coleen or his Radio 1 colleague Melvin Odoom.
On making his choice, Dean explained: “Melvin, I’m so so sorry! Wagatha Christie you’re coming with me! “, reports the Express.
As they headed towards the next race stage, joining forces in a 4×4, Coleen could be seen sharing a chuckle after pairing with Dean.
The moment sparked quite the reaction from fans watching at home, spurring them to take to social media, now known as X previously called Twitter, to comment on the “hilarious” exchange. One viewer wrote: “Coleen is never living that down as long as she lives. Arguably more famous than Wayne at this point.”
While another remarked: “A Wagatha Christie reference this early in the show was not what I expected.”
One viewer commented: “Dean labelling Coleen “Wagatha Christie” when picking her to pair up with him how awkward but iconic.”
Another fan exclaimed: “No way Dean called Coleen “Wagatha Christie” to her face.”
According to Betway, McFly singer Danny Jones is currently the favourite to win this year’s series, with Coronation Street’s Alan Halsall and Saving Grace podcast host GK Barry also in the running.
Betway spokesperson Mike Reading stated: “I’m A Celebrity is renowned for gathering a mix of reality stars, soap actors, athletes, and big personalities, and this year’s line-up appears to follow suit.”
“McFly seem to have the magic touch when it comes to reality TV, with bassist Dougie Poynter taking home the jungle crown in 2011, and drummer Harry Judd snagging the Strictly Come Dancing Glitterball Trophy the same year.”
Although not officially confirmed, Love Island star Maura Higgins is also speculated to be a potential Queen of the Jungle, with rumours suggesting that she and Reverend Richard Coles may be late arrivals.
Mike added: “Both GK Barry and Maura Higgins are known for their humour and outspoken opinions, and with Maura dating Pete Wicks – could he be celebrating the win of someone else close to him, after best pal Sam Thompson was crowned King of the Jungle last year?”
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! airs at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX
