An optical illusion has been deemed so complex that only those with “razor sharp” eyesight can figure it out.

As the festive season fast approaches, friends and family aim to push aside the daily grind of the working week to revel in much-needed quality time together. A staple of the Christmas season for many is a games night, complete with light-hearted rivalry and jovial banter.

With the spirit of friendly challenge in mind, Betway has challenged people with a crafty brainteaser that tasks people with spotting a playing card marred by an elusive mistake in its otherwise meticulous design. According to the popular gambling company, the record for finding the hidden error is an impressive 30 seconds. The challenge offers an intricate quest of seek-and-find among a tableau of face-up playing cards meticulously illustrated in the image.

A typical deck of cards comprises 52 cards split into four suits: spades, clubs, hearts, and diamonds, each suit home to 13 cards spanning the numbers 2–10 and topped with a jack, queen, king, and ace—the regal trio known as face cards.

Card designs come in two colours; black, which includes the clubs and spades, and red, made up of the hearts and diamonds. Most sets come complete with additional jokers that come in handy during times of loss or damage.

In the challenging puzzle, there’s one card which contains a mistake – part of its design is off. Can you beat the 30-second record? Have a look and see if you can find it:

Many people have found themselves perplexed by brain-teasers and puzzles, and one particular TikTok video that similarly highlighted a hidden design in a playing card had viewers confounded.

The clip featured the reverse side of a playing card adorned with a complex black and white motif. Overlaid was a voiceover stating: “If you cross your eyes and focus on this card in the right way, you’ll be able to see what card it is. Let me know if you figure it out.”

Users rushed to the comment section to post their reactions. One person jokingly stated: “I have a headache”, while another shared: “It’s not easy, but if you focus a bit differently you can see a 2 or a 22” and someone else remarked: “Can’t seem to be able to do it”. Several claimed to have identified the two of spades within the design.

One user asserted: “2 of spades, hard at first but once it pops in it’s easy, love these”.

Were you able to spot the wrong symbol on Betway’s playing card? The answer lies below:

The error is on a 10 of Clubs which contains a spade, incorrectly, as part of its design

Within its composition, the 10 of clubs card erroneously includes the emblem of a spade. Those eagle-eyed individuals who caught the discrepancy in under half a minute are thought to possess an IQ higher than that of the average person.
