Netflix fans have been advised to watch the new ‘ridiculous’ Christmas movie ‘with subtitles’ or they might ‘miss out’.
The recent addition to the streaming platform, Hot Frosty, debuted just last week and has already got viewers feeling festive. However, the film’s writer took to social media to hint that some fans might not be catching all the jokes, particularly in one hilarious scene.
The plot summary for Hot Frosty says: “Two years after losing her husband, Kathy (Lacey Chabert) magically brings a handsome snowman (Dustin Milligan) to life!”
“Through his naivete, the snowman helps Kathy to laugh, feel and love again, as the two fall for each other just in time for the holidays… and before he melts.”
The film features a stellar line-up including Dustin Milligan as the brought to life snowman, famed for his previous roles in 90210 and Schitt’s Creek, and Lacey Chabert of Mean Girls fame, reports the Mirror.
They are joined by Craig Robinson from The Office and Joe Lo Truglio, known as Charles from Brooklyn Nine Nine, with even Chrishell Stause from Selling Sunset making an appearance.
At one stage, Hot Frosty achieved a perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes, even ranking above the iconic film The Godfather. It has since dropped to 89% but remains the second most popular film on Netflix in the UK.
Russell Hainline, the writer behind the film, has lauded the Netflix subtitle team for their exceptional work on the movie, commenting: “[mystical chimes tinkling] [curious holiday music playing] [EDM version of Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” plays] I have to say, the Netflix subtitle crew did INCREDIBLE work for this movie.”
His remarks came during a live-posting session on Blue Sky while attending a special screening.
He further recommended that viewers should switch on subtitles for an enhanced experience, even in comedic parts, saying: “If you’re not watching HOT FROSTY with subtitles, you’re missing out on the description of Joe Lo Truglio’s soup noises. I don’t want to spoil it. It made me laugh very hard when I saw it.”
The film has already garnered praise from early viewers, despite Christmas being weeks away. One review read: “A cute Christmas movie that is worth watching. A bit ridiculous but knows it’s ridiculous so it feels like we’re in on the joke of how ridiculous it is.”
Some are tipping it to become a festive favourite, with one viewer remarking: “A snowman turns into a real life hunk. It’s a goofy movie set in a quaint town with some wonderfully quirky characters. Put it on your Christmas movie watch list this year!”
Hot Frosty is now streaming on Netflix
