Morning Live’s Gethin Jones found himself in hot water after his mischievous comment about “stockings” drew a sharp rebuke from colleague Rhys Stephenson during Tuesday’s (November 19) show.
Alongside co-host Helen Skelton, Gethin was dishing out advice on money and health to the viewers. However, the conversation took a tangent when they touched upon the topic of Christmas gifts.
Helen had quite the directive for Rhys as she said it was high time he splurged on his wife for their initial Xmas as husband and wife. She admonished: “Can somebody tell Rhys as your first Christmas as a married man, 20 quid in a card- not appropriate.”
Rhys spilled the beans on why this year felt especially momentous, admitting: “It’s not just our first Christmas as a married couple, it’s our first Christmas together.”
He revealed they had always spent the festive period with their respective kin, which is changing this year. “She wants stockings as well, the pressure is high this year,” reports Wales Online.
But Gethin couldn’t resist veering into cheeky territory, asking: “When you say stockings..” A loud and clear reply came from Rhys who bellowed: “Christmas stockings Gethin! Sweets and stuff, it’s a daytime show!”
Undeterred, Gethin parried back: “Because that would be a nice gift, that’s all I’m saying,” before swiftly transitioning to another part of the programme.
Earlier this year, Strictly star Rhys discreetly announced his wedding to Beth, posting an endearing clip of their nuptials online. In the brief video shared, the couple is spotted finishing off their special handshake just before the memorable occasion.
Rhys captioned the touching clip on his Instagram post: “When your friend @rachsilvester secretly catches you doing your pre-wedding handshake with your new wife,” accompanied by a laughing emoji.
Additionally, they uploaded selfies to their social media and posted together: “Yesterday I married my best friend. Thank you all for the most beautiful messages and all the love. We couldn’t have asked for a wedding more magical and special, love the Stephensons.”
