AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect involved in a deadly hit-and-run in South Austin in August.

Police said officers responded to a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 700 block of the E. Ben White Blvd. service road westbound around 1:04 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27. The crash happened near the Murphy gas station.

The pedestrian, later identified as 38-year-old Michael Schoenherr, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect vehicle did not stop and left the scene immediately after the crash, APD said.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the APD at 512-974-8111 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 512-472-8477 or by visiting austincrimestoppers.org. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.

The incident is being investigated as Austin’s 58th fatal crash of 2024.
