Concerned Barry Ferguson admits he doesn’t know if Rangers have the finances to snap up Lennon Miller from Motherwell.

And the former Ibrox captain admits he won’t be pleased if rivals Celtic step in to meet the Steelmen’s £4million valuation. The Fir Park talent is impressing on a weekly basis for ‘Well and recently capped off his rapid rise by being handed the captain’s armband by Stuart Kettlewell during the Premier Sports Cup semi-final clash with the Light Blues.

The 18-year-old is reportedly attracting interesting from both Glasgow giants – but the Fir Park chiefs are said to be holding out for a club record sale surpassing the £3.25million the Hoops paid out for David Turnbull back in 2020. Ferguson admits he would love to see Miller plying his trade at Ibrox but after the club revealed an operating loss of £17.2million last month has questions over funding a deal.

He told Go Radio: “The valuation of £4million is fair on Lennon Miller. I think he will get sold in January, but allowed to play with Motherwell until the end of the season. Who’s that to? I am going to hazard a guess that there will be a hell of a lot clubs in for him at that price. I think he has the potential to play at the highest level.

“He has been a standout, let’s be honest. He has gained so much experience in the short period of time in his professional career. It’s going to be a big decision. What I know is that he is a level-headed guy and he has a family behind him. They will make the right decision for him. Would I love to see him at Rangers? 100 per cent I would. Can Rangers afford him? I don’t know.”

Pressed on the prospect of Miller signing for Celtic, honest Ferguson admitted: “I wouldn’t be too happy, of course. You want to see good young players go to your team – I would be absolutely shocked if both Celtic and Rangers aren’t interested. There will be teams down south. Teams in Italy – he could easily play for Celtic or Rangers.”
