Outlander stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have revealed how long their final scene together as Jamie and Claire Fraser will be.

In the upcoming second half of season seven, Claire will be grief-stricken when Lord John Grey (played by David Berry) delivers the news that her husband Jamie has been lost at sea.

However, Claire, like fans, knows better and insists she would be able to feel it in her heart if Jamie had died.

Scottish star Heughan has indeed been spotted on the set of the upcoming eighth and final season, so it’s all but confirmed Jamie will make it out of season seven alive.

With the stakes on Outlander higher than ever before, the show’s two romantic leads made a recent appearance on The One Show to tease the upcoming episodes.

The co-stars comforted each other about their emotional finale

As well as previewing an exciting conclusion to season eight, hosts Alex Jones and Anita Rani probed the pair about their last moments on-screen together.

They briefly clenched each other’s hands as they reflected on the scene before Balfe went on: “God, it was so emotional.

“I mean, it was an emotional scene anyway, of course, because a lot of them are.”

Balfe then admitted that the series has had several unofficial conclusions already behind the scenes.

She explained: “We’ve had a couple of wraps. We had the official one and then we had our final pick-ups and that sort of stuff.

“But our official wrap we had a lot of executives came, there was a lot of the cast who came to the studio, the whole studio was full.”

Confirming the length of the scene in question, Balfe estimated: “And we had a seven minute scene or something?”

And Heughan put an official number on it: “A seven and a half minute scene.

“Lots of dialogue. And the dialogue, as in Outlander, normally these scenes are, it was very dramatic. A lot of goodbyes in the scene but then it had this double meaning because we were also saying goodbye ourselves.”

Balfe also went on to admit she had an involuntary reaction to the emotions she had to power through during her performance.

“My face had started to do some weird… parts of my face twitched that I didn’t know was possible,” she recalled.

While it’s not confirmed if Claire and Jamie’s final scene will be the last scene of the series overall, fans should brace themselves for a lengthy and devastating farewell once Outlander’s finale arrives.

Outlander season seven part two premieres on Friday, November 22, on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
