Amazon Prime’s TV adaptation of the classic 1999 film Cruel Intentions premieres today (November 21), and fans will be eager to know more about the cast playing a new generation of manipulative students at a prestigious school.
Among the main characters in the series is Sara Silva, who plays Celeste ‘CeCe’ Carroway. CeCe is the trusted aide of the show’s conniving antagonist, Caroline Merteuil (Sarah Catherine Hook), and her character is loosely based on Cecile Caldwell from the original film, played by Selma Blair.
While the TV reboot promises a ‘new chapter’, it stays true to the essence of the nineties film, tracing the power dynamics between two scheming step-siblings in their school setting and the drastic lengths they go to retain control.
But what else is there to learn about the actress bringing CeCe to life in the new series? From her short stint on a popular TV show to her link with a music superstar, here’s what you need to know.
Early life and career
Sara is of Brazilian-American descent, born in November 1997 in California. She embarked on her acting journey at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she pursued Theatre, Film and Television, reports the Mirror.
According to the movie database IMDB, her first acting credit dates back to 2016 when she featured in a music video for the hip hop group Swet Shop Boys as ‘TSA Agent 4’.
Since then, she’s landed more notable parts, including a role in a 2022 episode of Amazon Prime’s acclaimed superhero series, The Boys. She played a makeup artist to A-Train (Jessie T Usher) in a scene that parodied Kendall Jenner’s infamous Pepsi advert, which faced backlash for appearing to diminish the importance of social activism and movements like Black Lives Matter.
Machine Gun Kelly connection
The actress is linked to the rapper and songwriter Machine Gun Kelly, whose real name is Richard Colson Baker. She starred alongside him in the musical drama Taurus, which also featured his real-life partner Megan Fox. The film’s synopsis reads: “A rising but troubled musician searches for the inspiration to record his next song, pushing himself deep into the void.”
Taurus garnered mixed reactions at its debut. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has polarised opinions, with general viewers giving it a high 90 per cent approval rating, while critics have only awarded it an average of 64 per cent.
She’s in a band
Beyond acting, Sara indulges in various pastimes, including being part of a band named Dance Arts Center, which enjoys a modest online following. Their music is available for streaming on platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
The band released an official music video for their track Actress just three months ago, with Sara recognised as both a producer and star. Besides her musical pursuits, she spends her free time writing plays and cuddling with her cat, Pepita.
