Hundreds of warm coats and heavy jackets that will help people keep warm this winter were donated following an annual appeal by the Rotary Club of Rutherglen.

The Wrap Up Lanarkshire initiative helps others during winter who may not have or be able to afford warm clothing, including those who find themselves homeless at this time of year.

Around 400 of the winter coats and jackets were donated at four drop-off points over two days earlier this month, at Burnside Church, Croftfoot Church, St Bride’s Church, and Rutherglen United Reformed Church.

Wrap Up donations were then collected by volunteers and each garment painstakingly inspected to ensure it was clean and in a good condition to be given away.

The winter clothing items have now been delivered to the Kindness, Homeless Street Team charity at London Road in Glasgow’s east end. And they couldn’t have come at a better time as freezing temperatures begin to bite.

The Rotary Club motto – Is this coat good enough for you to wear? – ensures only good quality coats are distributed to charitable organisations.

Andy Cattanach, Past President of Rotary Club of Rutherglen, said: “Thanks go to all who donated at the four locations, and to those Rotarians and friends who helped with the organisation and distribution.

“Special thanks to Bill Mcintosh and the National Sign Company for his administration and the use of his big van to deliver the coats”.
