NEW YORK (Gray News) – The world’s tallest and shortest women met for the first time to share afternoon tea in celebration of the 20th annual Guinness World Records Day.
Rumeysa Gelgi, the tallest woman, and Jyoti Amge, the shortest, swapped stories and experiences of life from two very different perspectives.
“It was so amazing meeting Jyoti for the first time. It was difficult for us to make eye contact at times due to our height difference, but it was great,” Gelgi said.
Gelgi added that both women have things in common like their love of makeup, self-care and doing their nails.
Amge stands at just 24.7 inches tall, while Gelgi towers over her at 7 feet, 0.7 inches.
“I’m used to looking up and seeing people taller than me, but I was so happy to look up today and see the world’s tallest woman,” Amge said. “I’m delighted that I’ve met Rumeysa, she is so good-natured, and I felt very comfortable talking to her.”
As two of Guinness World Records best-loved title holders, the two are also honored as GWR icons in the book’s 70th anniversary edition.
They feature alongside other GWR icons including longest fingernails (female) Diana Armstrong, tallest man Sultan Kosen and disabled strongman Dave Walsh in Guinness World Records 2025, according to the organization.
“Being named as a Guinness World Records icon in this anniversary edition is surreal, it is the greatest honor I have ever had,” Gelgi said. “I’ve seen myself among all these artists and athletes that I’ve always been a fan of – it’s an indescribable feeling.”

“I am thankful to Guinness World Records for finding me in 2009 and giving me the opportunities I have had. I never thought I would be called an icon and it’s extra special that it is in the 70th anniversary edition,” Amge said.
Gelgi is living with a rare condition called Weaver syndrome which causes accelerated growth and skeletal deformities.
Amge, on the other hand, has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia and will never grow beyond a certain height.
