BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – There is a new leader at the helm of the Big Blue in the City of Bluefield, WV and aptly enough he is already familiar with the role.
Bluefield State University announcing on social media on November 21, 2024 that Dr. Darrin Martin has been selected by BSU’s Board of Governors to serve as the HBCU’s 17th president.
Martin served as interim president following the departure of Robin Capehart.
In a press release the 129-year-old educational institution noted the vote was unanimous.
Prior to his daily administrative roles with the school, Governor Jim Justice selected him to serve on the Board of Governors.
Martin is a life-long resident of the Bluefields.
He spent his formative years raised in Bluefield, West Virginia.
The father of four currently resides Bluefield, Virginia with his wife, superintendent of Raleigh County Schools, Dr. Serena Starcher.
The investiture ceremony celebrating Dr. Darrin Martin’s new role will be announced at a later date.
The university noting in its release,” Dr. Martin’s appointment represents a bridge between the university’s storied past and its promising future.”
Bluefield State University was founded as an Historically Black College and University on February 28, 1895.
