Reghan Tumilty hopes it’s about to get hairy for old club Raith Rovers.
The Hamilton Accies right-back is re-growing a moustache for his annual Movember fundraiser in a bid to raise awareness for men’s mental and physical health, having first taken it up while at Rovers in 2021.
Now the two clubs face-off in a Championship clash that Tumilty is hoping will boost both Accies’ points tally and his campaign total, with buckets available for fans to donate on the day.
Accies have had a close shave with Rovers already this season, scoring in the fourth minute of stoppage time in Kirkcaldy to salvage a 3-3 draw back in September.
And Tumilty expects another as Accies aim to return to winning ways after back-to-back league defeats left them level on 15 points with Raith in seventh place.
Sporting some impressive whiskers, he said: “It is a game we have to win.
“Being at home, we need to make sure we turn up to beat Raith because they have been doing quite well under the new manager [Neill Collins].
“We need to perform well after a couple of defeats [to Livingston and Partick], so if we get the win that will make the weekend better and make my moustache feel better about itself!
“I started doing this when I was at Raith Rovers and I managed to raise £2,500 in the first year and they supported me really well. Hamilton have really taken that on now and the fans of both clubs are really great.
“Everyone knows there’s not a lot of Hamilton fans but they come out and help support me every year and that is really appreciated. This is the last home game of the month so hopefully we can raise a bit more on Saturday.
“Everyone beats everyone in the Championship and every game is tough. We had been high on confidence after wins over Airdrie and Morton recently, so there is a bit of a point to prove.”
Tumilty raised an impressive £5,500 last season and knows it will be tough to top that tally.
And he insists the ‘tache won’t be hanging around for Christmas.
He added: “I’m just past £2,000 now. Last year I managed to get £5,500 which will be tough to beat but to be at the £2,000 so far is still really good for the charity.
“This is my fourth year doing it so I think even my girlfriend is used to my facial hair now. She won’t admit it but I think she secretly likes it.
“I don’t think I’ll keep it for Christmas, that might ruin the pictures and I don’t think she’ll be too happy with that!”
