Police closed a road in the Borders after a five-vehicle crash as Storm Bert causes adverse driving conditions.

Officers were alerted to the multi-vehicle incident on the A68 between St Boswells and Ancrum at around 8:55am this morning, Saturday, November 23.

No information is available at this stage on any casualties in the incident but the Scottish Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.

The Record reported earlier this morning on a number of road closures and diversions as the snow causes travel chaos on the road.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The A68 is currently closed between St Boswells and Ancrum due to a crash involving five vehicles reported shortly after 8.55am. Weather conditions are challenging in the area as a result of Storm Bert and we would urge people to heed warnings about whether they need to travel.”

Traffic Scotland also announced the road had been shut. A spokesperson said: “The A68 at St Boswells is currently CLOSED in both directions due to adverse weather conditions.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Borders Council said: “We’re starting to get reports of challenging road conditions across the Scottish Borders. Please take care and drive to the conditions. Our crews continue to operate across the network to treat and clear routes. Image is from our traffic camera on the A7 near Heriot at 8.50am.”
