Drivers are stuck on the Edinburgh City Bypass as Storm Bert continues to cause chaos across the country.

Footage taken at around 11am on Saturday morning shows several vehicles at a standstill with drivers being urged to “avoid” the major city road.

The delay comes after Scotland was hit with heavy snow shower causing huge disruption up and down the country. Police have already reported several road accidents due to the severe weather.

Images from the city bypass show a van and around five cars stuck in the wintry conditions as a blanket of snow covers the road, reports Edinburgh Live.

Issuing a statement on social media, Police Scotland said: “After the recent weather warning and continued cold weather into the weekend, please be careful when driving through Edinburgh.

“This mornings snow and ice has resulted in several minor traffic accidents across the City which our officers are currently dealing with.

“As a result there is considerable traffic disruption to Drum Brae/Clermiston area and at the Straiton junction on Edinburgh City Bypass. As the snow continues, please consider whether travelling is necessary and if driving, please be careful.
