Major attractions across Edinburgh have closed today as Storm Bert continues to batter the country.
Popular Edinburgh Zoo told customer they would be remaining closed on Saturday morning due to ‘safety’ concerns.
The closure comes as adverse weather conditions triggered major disruption throughout Scotland. Police have warned motorists to only travel if necessary. Lothian Buses have also axed all services until further notice.
Edinburgh Live reports the Edinburgh Botanic Gardens have also delayed their opening times as they monitor the weather conditions.
In a post on social media, they wrote: “Due to the current weather conditions, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh will delay opening today. Saturday 23rd November, we will continue to monitor the conditions and forecast.”
An Edinburgh Zoo spokesperson said: “Due to the weather, it is not safe to open the zoo today. We’re sorry for any disappointment and will be contacting everyone who is pre-booked as soon as possible!”
Edinburgh Christmas markets have also delayed opening as heavy wintry showers continue to batter the city.
Midlothian snowsports centre in Hillend has also suspended their activities including the alpine coaster. They are urging customers not to travel as the access road has been closed.
In a post, the centre’s staff said: “Please note that due to the current weather conditions, all activities are currently suspended.
“We are asking for you not to travel as the access road will be coned off and closed until further notice.
“Alpine Coaster – all bookings will be contacted as quickly as possible to arrange refunds or credit notes and your patience on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
