A tragic accident unfolded as a man lost his life when his vehicle lost control on icy roads and hit a wall. It happened just before 1 am as the cold snap from Storm Bert took hold.
The 34-year-old couldn’t be saved after his Renault Captur collided with a stone wall in Shipley, West Yorks. The Bradford resident’s identity has not been disclosed.
Amidst continuing heavy snow, police have been persistent at the scene to investigate.
A local dweller recounted the harrowing incident: “A loud crash woke me up in the middle of the night. When I looked outside, I could see the car had spun off the road and smashed into a wall. It was freezing last night and the road can be treacherous in icy conditions. We’ve seen accidents here before, but nothing as tragic as this.”

At 12.59 am, authorities were summoned to the crash site at Moorhead Lane and Beechwood Grove junction in Shipley, where the driver received immediate care but sadly was declared deceased there. A representative for West Yorkshire Police issued an appeal: “Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a road traffic collision in Shipley. A blue Renault Captur, which had been travelling north-east towards Saltaire, had collided with a wall.”, reports the Mirror.
“The driver, a 34 year old man from Bradford, was given emergency treatment but was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. A road closure has remained in place while the scene is being cleared.”
Police are urging any witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw the vehicle prior to the incident, especially those with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward.
