A travel influencer has shared a little-known hack that could potentially land you the best seat on your flight – but it comes with a bit of a risk.
Securing the best seat on the plane can significantly enhance your comfort, especially during long-haul flights. However, airlines often charge extra for seat reservations – and these extra charges are often very expensive.
Sheridan, who shares her travel experiences with her husband Greg on TikTok (@findusontheroad), says she has been using a trick that, sometimes, might allow you to “choose” your seat upon boarding.
In a recent TikTok video, she filmed herself and Greg at the end of a queue of passengers boarding a plane. She captioned the video: “FLIGHT HACK: ALWAYS board your flight last and that way if they had you sitting next to someone before… now you can choose any open seat if the flight is not full.”
The video has garnered more than 4.1 million views and 81,000 likes. Reacting in the comments section, one TikTok user said: “Shhh don’t give away our secrets.”
Another commenter claimed they were an airline worker for 10 years, and worked on around 20 to 30 flights every day. They said the “odds are very much not in your favour” with this hack, but admitted “it may work occasionally”.
However, it seems that if you’re tempted to test your luck for a better seat, you should be ready for the potential embarrassing trek back to your original spot should things not pan out. One user shared their experience: “I did that once and had to shamefully walk to my seat lol.” Another added: “I used to ALWAYS do this, but now flights are always too full.”
