Neil McCann was left dismayed at the Rangers reaction to Jefte’s role in Dundee Utd’s goal, claiming the Brazilian would be getting his “head ripped off” in his dressing room.
Tangerines striker Sam Dalby headed Jim Goodwin‘s side into a first half Ibrox lead, before Vaclav Cerny salvaged a point for under fire Philippe Clement with a second half equaliser. But it was another afternoon when the Ibrox side laboured throughout and they are now 11 points behind Celtic in the Premiership table.
What irked McCann wasn’t just Jefte‘s inability to properly spot and snuff out the danger, but the reaction from him and his teammates. The ex-Gers winger sees an acceptance of low standards in the rest of the team and insisted he wouldn’t stand for it as a boss and expects far better from those in Light Blue, especially when they are up against it and struggling for form.
“Jefte needs to identify the biggest danger and that is that man (Dalby), it’s not the man outside you,” he said on Sportscene. “You can see him, he’s pointing behind him: ‘I’ve got my man’.
‘See in my dressing room? He’d have been getting his head ripped off. It’s not good enough. The immediate danger is the man inside the posts.
“It’s a good run that takes *(Robin) Propper away, the centre back. But you then become the next centre back and you need to squeeze over. The ball goes over your shoulder and you deal with it.
“But I’m looking at guys and wondering who’s digging him out? It’s almost nothing. It’s just a turn away and acceptance. That is terrible, but a brilliant goal from Dundee United’s point of view.”
Fellow pundit Scott Allan then assured viewers McCann wasn’t lying: “First and foremost I can vouch for Neil in the dressing room! Host Steven Thomson laughed: “He’s an angry wee man.”
