A Wishaw martial arts club are celebrating after youngsters medalled in two major competitions over the last month.
Vision Taekwondo had members competing in the British National Championships from October 5-6 and The Dutch Open from October 19-20 – with prizes claimed in both events.
The British Nationals took place at the English Institute of Sport and this year Vision had a small team of four competing on the advanced day of the event.
Kaila Sloan won Gold in the Junior Female under 63kg category, becoming a two-time National Champion. Jordan Horswell reached the semi-finals before just missing out on a place in the final, winning a bronze medal. Kayden Paton and Kirsty Marshall both missed out on medals but gave great performances.
Meanwhile, The Dutch Open is one of the largest events in Europe and attracted over 1000 athletes from across the world. Jordan Horswell along with sisters Ava and Sophia Bett were competing and performed impressively at such a high level.
Jordan and Sophia just missed out on a medal while Ava, for the fourth time this year, reached the medal rounds at a top European event. She beat athletes from Belgium and France (x2) before missing out in a really close final against an opponent from Serbia.
Her silver medal adds to her gold medal at the Luxembourg Open and bronze medals in Bulgaria and Estonia in 2024. Ava also recently returned from competing at the Junior World Championships, which were held in South Korea.
Club coaches Ross and Craig Eden said: “Overall, October was a very successful month for the club. As coaches our goal is ensure that our students progress with every event and we are really proud of the performances across both competitions.
“It was so pleasing to see that the hard work is paying off for them and we are producing some excellent results.”
