From golden roast potatoes to tasty vegetables, you could easily fill up on the side dishes that come with a typical Christmas dinner before even reaching the turkey. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that many households find themselves with enough leftovers to see them through Boxing Day.
And while a cold buffet spread or sandwiches are good ways to use up the excess food, there’s another festive recipe taking social media by storm that will do just the trick.
The viral Christmas dinner loaded chips recipe has racked up more than 3.8 million views and counting. Originally posted by @thefoodgal earlier this year, this dish is essentially some of the highlights of a Christmas dinner perched on top of a heap of golden fried chips.
Sharing the video on TikTok, she wrote: “I know its early but I don’t care there’s no way I’m waiting for these.”
In her viral video, @thefoodgal starts by tossing some crisply cooked chips into a bowl. She then piles on roast chicken, heaps of stuffing, and pigs in blankets before topping the whole dish with a generous drizzle of gravy, reports the Mirror.
Her creation impressed viewers, with one TikToker commenting: “This looks like heaven,” while another said: “Love this idea.”
Others suggested modifications to the original recipe, with one writing: “I would add sprouts, carrots and parsnips to that. Also cranberry sauce,” while a second said: “It would be amazing served in a giant Yorkshire pudding.”
Some claimed they would happily forego the traditional Christmas spread for this “no fuss” alternative, while others are labelling it the “perfect Boxing Day meal”. Another commenter said: “So rogue but so good.”
