Dean McCullough has landed himself in hot water with a fellow I’m A Celebrity contestant, and it’s not down to his mixed performance in the trials.

The BBC Radio 1 disc jockey is braving the wild in this year’s stint of the popular ITV reality series and has found himself fronting the bulk of the challenges. His reactions have been mixed, with one instance seeing him throw in the towel by uttering the well-known phrase ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’.

Dean’s inability to bring home the bacon meant the crew has been surviving on meagre rations of rice and beans. Despite the hardship, spirits were lifted during Monday night’s episode as they marked Love Island celeb Maura Higgins’ birthday.

Nevertheless, there was tension in the air, with one team member taking issue with Deans behaviour, serving up a serious reprimand, reports the Mirror.

Chart-topping N-Dubz star Tulisa made her desire for a lie-in known, but Dean had other plans in mind. He cheekily remarked: “Now that she’s out of the Leaders’ Lodge, Tulisa has warned me that there must be no musical theatre early in the morning, so I made it my mission to make sure the camp woke up this morning with the sound of lovely singing! “.

The audience at home has shared their grievances over Dean being the go-to choice for each trial by public vote, prompting some to call for a revamp of the show’s voting mechanism. A viewer suggested: “They need to change how the voting works so say if you do trial 1 you can’t be voted for trial 2 and then they can be voted again on trial 3 so we are not just seeing the same person everyday.”

One viewer expressed their boredom with the show’s format, saying: “I don’t get it because it’s not even really entertaining? Like seeing someone scream because they have to stick their arm in a barrel of fish guts is boring after 2 trials.”

Another suggested a change: “I would try a ‘no two trials in a row’ rule for at least one year. You can always revert it if people aren’t keen.”

Host Ant made a direct appeal to the audience during Sunday night’s spin-off show, imploring: “Well, right. Let’s all have a serious talk. I’m going to look directly into the camera here. I think it’s good to see other faces down there. This is not a personal thing. It’s not about Dean. It’s about us, just seeing different people down there.”

Ant continued, expressing his desire for variety: “I think we want to see different people on the show doing [trials]. Some people are, unfortunately, aren’t getting… I’d like to see Barry do a trial. I’d like to see Melvin down there. Or Oti.”

Echoing this sentiment, last year’s King of the Jungle, Sam Thompson, encouraged viewers to vote for their favourites, while co-host Declan Donnelly rallied support: “We need to mobilise armies of McFly fans, Corrie fans (to vote).”
