Annual tree lighting kicks off festivities in West Virginia’s Christmas City

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – West Virginia’s Christmas City officially kicked off the holiday season this evening with the City of Bluefield’s Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Mistletoe Market inside Bluefield City Park.

Students from Bluefield Primary performed Christmas songs for visitors before the countdown to the lighting of 22-foot-tall musical Christmas tree began.

Bluefield City Manager Cecil Marson says despite having to clean up hundreds of fallen trees from the City Park due Hurricane Helene, the Bluefield Public Work’s department pushed through to prepare for tonight and for the official opening of the Holiday of Lights.

“It took a lot of work this year just because of the storm and trying to help folks out and get everything cleaned up down here,” said Marson. “We’re super excited we got it done. The board did a great job pushing and make it happen. We’ve got a great public works team, and Candy Sayers did a great job to get to work and get it together.”

The Holiday of Lights will open at 6:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving and run nightly through January 5. The Mistletoe Market will be open 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. every Friday and Saturday.
