A woman hit another female with a golf club after an argument on social media.

Caitlin Lees, 24, of Affric Avenue, Plains, was fined £380 at Airdrie Sheriff Court this week.

She admitted assaulting the woman in Affric Avenue on February 21.

The court heard the victim went to Lees’ home after the pair had posted messages to each other.

The prosecution accepted the victim was behaving in an aggressive manner and Lees went out to confront her.

A fight began and Lees picked up a golf club that was lying next to a bin and hit the other woman once on the leg, causing bruising.

Allegations that the victim was punched, knocked to the ground and kicked repeatedly were dropped.

Defence lawyer John Paul Gallacher said his client’s reaction to the other woman’s aggression had been “unacceptable”.

Lees, he added, has a “limited” criminal record and has been affected by family bereavements in recent years.

Sheriff Tony McGlennan said he was prepared to impose a fine as the charge had been “much reduced”.

He told Lees: “It seems at best unwise for the victim to have gone to your house, but it’s never the proper course to take matters into your own hands.”
