AUSTIN, Texas — In an update on Tuesday, police revealed the name of a man accused of a deadly shooting near a North Austin shopping center.
The incident happened around 1:40 p.m. on Monday at 1212 W. Parmer Lane, near the Parmer on Creek Center.
Police said 39-year-old Steven Rippley had an ongoing feud with the victim, who remains unidentified.
According to the Austin Police Department, Rippley called police saying he had shot someone under the bridge. Officers responded and located a man with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at 1:59 p.m.
Investigators believe Rippley had a history with the victim. Police said Rippley claimed the victim had threatened him with a rock in his hand, so Rippley shot him multiple times.
Rippley was arrested for first-degree murder and booked into the Travis County Jail.
A preliminary investigation revealed both the victim and Rippley were experiencing homelessness.
