BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WALA/Gray News) – A mom in Alabama is demanding answers after she said her one-year-old son was attacked and bitten several times at day care.
Amy Stewart said the director of the day care called and said that her son had been attacked.
“I immediately left work and went to him. When I made it there, it was a lot worse than what I thought,” said Stewart. “I’m still in shock. I can’t believe it happened.”
Stewart said she rushed her son to the emergency room with bite marks covering his body from head-to-toe.
The doctor told her that he had 3 to 6 bites to the face, 3 to 6 on the hand, and 4 on his backside and leg.
Stewart said she’s questioning how her son’s injuries got to this point.
“I just really want to know what all happened- where were the teachers at? Was his teacher the only teacher? There should have been more people on the playground watching him,” said Stewart.
Stewart said this isn’t the first time her son has been bitten at the day care center.
“He’s been bitten, but he’s never been attacked to the point I’ve had to take him to the emergency room. All in all, there’s been 19 incident reports for my son…12 of them being bites. They did take care of that, they moved him to a different class and everything was going great until this happened.”
The report from this most recent incident details that while Stewart’s child was going up the slide on the playground, “the other kids pushed him out of the way and started biting him.”
The daycare proceeded to say they provided her son with an “ice pack and love” and noted that Stewart was notified by phone and in person of his injuries.
FOX10 News reached out to the day care and they provided us with this statement:
“This is an ongoing investigation being held by DHR and local police. We are all looking for answers but please respect that no statements or comments will be given until the investigation is complete.”
