Boxer David Jamieson admits he’s in a ‘rollercoaster’ stage of his career – and is buckling up for the ride.

Jamieson beat Englishman Josh Sandland in a fifth-round TKO on Saturday in Glasgow to land the Silver Commonwealth title at heavyweight, handing him a mandatory challenge for the outright belt.

The win at the Double Tree by Hilton in Kynoch’s ‘KO Chaos’ evening will also open more doors further down the line for the Westwood fighter, who has big things on the horizon.

“It’s all happening, there’s lots going on, and you just need to ride the rollercoaster – fasten your seat belt and go for it,” said Jamieson.

“This is what it’s all about. It’s the peaks and the troughs of boxing, and you need to take the good with the bad, and enjoy the good when you get it, because you’re one punch away from the bad.

“Especially in heavyweight boxing, you’re one punch away from the dumps again.

“This gives me a mandatory shot at the full Commonwealth title at heavyweight. It will also do wonders for my ranking at cruiserweight.

“This is massive and will open doors for me. I’ll be top-ten in Britain now, so the phone will go for a big one down the line.

“I’m over the moon to get the Silver Commonwealth title. He was a very tough, awkward lad, was Josh Sandland. He came forward, he was right in my chest all the time, and he closed the distance.

“I was trying to box him at range, but he closed the distance well, so I ended up having to dig my feet in, stand and have a fight with him.

“I never like going the rounds, I always try to get these guys out of there as quickly as I can, but it will not do me any harm getting those rounds under my belt.

“It’s good to get back into it. If you’re in there and you blow them all away, early doors, you’re not learning as much as you can if you’re doing the rounds.

“It’s a knock-out, I’m chuffed with that, and it’s nice to get it on the record.

“Josh was very tough. He’s deceptive with his record and things, but he’s a very, very good lad.”

Jamieson has a few things in the pipeline but if it’s possible to be involved in St Andrew’s Sporting Club’s Gladiators II event at PlaySport in East Kilbride on February 8, he would love to take part.

“We want to sit down and try to get something organised, but it depends on other things,” said Jamieson.

“We’re playing it by ear to see what’s coming up, but if we can jump on that, we will.

“Getting a home fight would mean the world to us. We’re chasing big shows and down south and things, but that would be a real sweetener for me to box in front of a home crowd.”

Jamieson is heading to London this week to help Johnny Fisher with sparring as part of his final preparations ahead of a fight against Dave Allen in Saudi Arabia on December 21.

Jamieson said: “It’s all coming off, I’m heading down to London for two weeks of sparring with Johnny Fisher, ahead of his big fight in Saudi Arabia with Dave Allen, so we’re heading down there to finish off his camp.

“The plan for me is to come back down to cruiserweight, maybe for February – so Christmas dinner’s off!”
