SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT/Gray News) – A man is facing charges in Kentucky after an incident that left his son in a coma.
It happened Saturday evening in the Sadieville area.
According to the arrest citation, the nephew of 40-year-old Austin Brooks told deputies his uncle was driving intoxicated on the way to get more beer.
Brooks’ son and nephew were in the bed of his pickup truck as they went down Porter Road.
The nephew told deputies that Brooks was driving too fast on Porter Road, especially since the street was wet.
When the pickup got to the area of the Love’s Truck Stop, the boys became concerned that Brooks would take them onto the interstate.
The pair knocked on the truck cab to get Brooks’ attention.
“Due to his intoxicated state, they were in fear for their lives,” according to the citation.
The two boys then jumped from the truck.
Brooks never stopped, the citation states. His nephew sustained minor injuries.
The citation, however, says Brooks’ son is in a coma at the University of Kentucky HealthCare Hospital with a possible brain injury.
Brooks is facing charges of wanton endangerment, endangering the welfare of a minor and leaving the scene of an accident.
