Scotland Women are preparing to host Finland in the first-leg of their Euro 2025 playoff as they look to take a step towards the tournament in Switzerland next summer.
The game will take place at Hibernian FC’s Easter Road stadium in Edinburgh on Friday night, with the second-leg being played on Tuesday, December 3. Whoever wins the two-legged tie will take their place alongside 15 other teams at the championships which begin on July 2, 2025.
Pedro Martinez Losa’s team eased into the second and final round of the playoffs with a 5-0 aggregate win over Hungary last month. The women’s national team are now just two games away from qualifying for a third major tournament. They have only ever reached the European Championships on one occasion, when they were held in The Netherlands in 2017.
SWPL managing director Fiona McIntyre explains just how important Scotland’s clash against Finland is for the national team and women’s football. She said: “I don’t think games come much bigger than this. It is a huge opportunity to get to the Euros finals. So it is an absolutely massive game on the women’s football calendar. As a nation we need our national team to be playing at the very top level.”
