(TMX) – A 12-year-old Washington boy is facing charges for allegedly stealing his grandfather’s car and driving it some 160 miles across the state before leading deputies on a “brief” chase.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said police in Issaquah, a suburb of Seattle, notified them that a 12-year-old boy had stolen his grandfather’s car, and they believed he could be headed to Grant County, where he has connections in Moses Lake.
The Sheriff’s Motor Traffic Unit found the vehicle at around 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, parked the 900 block of Lowry Street in the Larson Community of Moses Lake.
The 12-year-old driver then led deputies on a “short pursuit” that ended when a deputy used a PIT maneuver to stop the stolen vehicle near Randolph Road and State Route 17.
The sheriff’s office said there were no injuries and damage was “minimal.”
The boy was taken into custody and transported to the Chelan County Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and felony eluding.
