BLUEFIELD, W. Va. -At the Blue Spoon Cafe on Small Business Saturday, local author and photographer, Wayne Pelts, debuted his new book, Bluefield Details, that lets readers get a closer look at some of the smaller features that make up this historic city.
“I love detail. I love architectural detail. There are so many buildings that are just interesting around here, so these are images, not of the full building, but of just the close-up detail…” says Pelts.
In addition to the original photography, the book also includes passages from more than seventy people in the community who share Pelts’s love of Bluefield, with each page featuring a photo and a written reflection on the beauty and history of the city.
One of those writing a passage for the book stopped by to pick up his copy of Bluefield Details and share why he wanted to contribute his thoughts.
“I’ve known Wayne for a while, and just whatever I can say positive about the City of Bluefield and the people here, it’s just a great place to live…” says Vince Lewis, “…the people are just so warm and welcoming, and the city is a wonderful place to live, friendly, safe. I can’t think of a better place to be.”
We asked Pelts why he chose to focus his efforts on capturing the details of this city.
“…There’s a joy in this place. I mean, I firmly believe that God puts us a time and a place for a reason, and this is our time and this is our place and we need to embrace the things which are ours and that He’s blessed us with,” says Pelts.
Lewis encourages others to pick up their own copy of Bluefield Details, calling it a “beautiful work.”
