Philippe Clement insists his Rangers side lacked sex appeal after grinding out a win over St Johnstone thanks to an own goal from Ibrox old boy Jason Holt.
The Belgian eased the pressure slightly on his position with the three points to reduce the gap at the top to 11 points to leaders and rivals Celtic and while they dominated more than the 1-0 scoreline suggested, Clement admitted there is plenty of room for improvement.
But Rangers bounced back from last week’s dismal draw at home to Dundee United and followed up their stunning 4-1 midweek Europa League win over Nice and under-fire Clement told Sky Sports: “It was a well deserved victory, we dominated the game and only gave one shot on target away but we need to score more goals to be more sexy and entertaining like we want to be for our fans – but also to kill the opponent.
“That’s still a working point but I see a lot of positive things in the squad with players growing and becoming better and doing the right things more and more. It’s important after a European trip, big victory, to react directly domestically and get the deserved points.
“It’s not easy because teams all over the world don’t score three or four goals. It’s not like that. And also the last couple of weeks we’ve played a goalkeeper who played the game of their lives. The goalkeeper made some really good saves, like last week.
“It’s about continuing to do that but making better choices but that is work in progress.
“I see other parts of the game we’re growing and getting better and if you score just four goals in Nice then you can’t say we don’t score enough. It’s there in some games and in some games less.
“The team kept pushing and did the right things on the ball. We never came into trouble during the game, even at the end with their power play. We defended well and tried to score the second goal and it’s a pity we didn’t get the second and third.
“We aren’t so much thinking about the away record. It’s not like there’s a big difference in the form – it’s in details that we weren’t good enough and we’re working on that with the squad and working on a culture, to put in the heads and bodies, that it’s about doing it every three or four days at Rangers. I see the last six weeks our physical data is becoming better.”
