A lip reader has debunked the rumours that King Charles asked his son Prince Harry and daughter-in-law Meghan Markle to leave a garden party in 2018.

The event, which occurred shortly after Harry and Meghan’s Windsor wedding, celebrated Charles’ 70th birthday at Buckingham Palace.

At the time, speculation was rife that the couple had been told to exit the festivities and were escorted out. However, a professional lip reader reviewed the footage for MailOnline and disclosed what was actually said between Charles and Harry.

The lip reader reported that an aide informed Harry he was “called for”. Charles was then seen telling Harry: “We are going now, We have to leave.”

To which Harry responded: “You go ahead”.

The future monarch added: “We will go now, see you later”, with Harry replying: “Yes, catch up after.”

Prior to this exchange, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were mingling with guests when Harry was summoned by his father. Charles spoke softly to Harry while touching his arm, prompting a nod and a gesture from the prince before he patted Charles on the back and rejoined Meghan.

Camilla also approached to bid farewell to both Harry and Meghan with a kiss before she continued to enjoy the party. This gathering took place nearly two years before Harry and Meghan decided to step down as senior royals and relocate to the United States in 2020.

Despite the speculated tension this decision may have caused between the Duke and his father, it’s reported that they remain on speaking terms, with the 76 year old King having recently reached out to his son.

This comes in spite of Prince Harry’s harsh characterisation of his father, King Charles, over recent years, including suggesting the monarch was emotionally distant in his explosive 2023 memoir, ‘Spare’.
