BLUEFIELD, W. Va. -Saturday night, people got the chance to enjoy live music performances, while helping those in need in the community. The Clover Club in downtown Bluefield, West Virginia, hosted the annual “Can Jam,” returning for its fifteenth year.

Those attending could enjoy live music from three different bands for a price of ten dollars or five dollars and five cans of food. Matt Deal, the creator, organizer, and performer at the event, says the goal of the Can Jam is to give people an affordable show and give him an excuse to play music with his friends.

However, the show has another purpose: helping support the Bluefield Union Mission with the money raised going to help fund the organization’s work providing food and more to the community.

“Every bit of money, every bit of food we raise goes to the Bluefield Union Mission. It’s all straight out the door…” explains Deal, “…in Bluefield there’s lots of people that need help that are just a disaster or two away from being on the streets, so anything we can do to help.”

Deal credits the event’s fifteen-year span to the people who come out to show their support and to the local businesses who donated items for the door prizes and silent auction. If you missed this event, Deal says the Bluefield Union Mission is still in need of donations of food, money, jackets, or other items.
