Two radio controlled car racing tracks are set to be created near Dumfries.
Dumfries Model Car Club has been given planning permission to use a patch of land near Mabie Forest.
The area – near Dumfries Model Flying Club – will be used for two astroturf tracks, a driving stand, parking and a storage container.
Model car racing is a popular hobby, with F1 legend Lewis Hamilton demonstrating his ability at the past-time when he appeared on Blue Peter as a youngster.
Dumfries Model Car Club was on the lookout for a new home due to building work taking place at David Keswick Athletic Centre and Dumfries High School.
A planning statement said: “The club is completely non-profit and is also of charitable status. We run the club to provide an area for people to race electric radio control cars. This is open to absolutely everyone.
“The club currently has a broad mix of members from older drivers down to children from age five onwards. Also suitable for all genders and is brilliant for people with physical or mental disabilities.
“The cars are electric, so are clean and quiet, but also offer a great opportunity to learn about car mechanics and dynamics.
“The club members would be able to access the track at any time for practice sessions, but most activity will be over the weekends in the summer months, with organised race meetings usually taking place on Sundays, approximately once a month.
“We don’t need mains electricity or any other utilities, and all buildings will be temporary and moveable.
“Ultimately we just need somewhere that is good value and safe for our members to participate in this fantastic hobby.”
One local resident objected to the application, believing it would lead to an increase in traffic and was an inappropriate use for the land.
