MONETA, Va. (WDBJ) – A hunter was injured after falling from a tree stand Sunday, December 1, according to the Moneta Volunteer Fire Department.

Crews responded at 6:12 a.m. to reports of a hunter who had fallen from a tree stand on the 1300 block of Stony Fork Road.

The hunter was nearly half a mile from a house, and four-wheel drive vehicles were necessary for access, according to the fire department.

Crews drove as close as possible before hiking 1/4 of a mile to locate the injured hunter, according to firefighters.

The hunter was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

During the rescue, a battery-powered LED puck was stolen from the side of Stony Fork Road. The puck was placed on the side of the road to mark the driveway for incoming units, and the theft delayed their response.

Moneta Volunteer Fire Department is asking whomever took it to return it to the station.
