TAZEWELL, Va. -The Tazewell branch of the Tazewell County Public Library has celebrated its grand reopening with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

This event marked a new era for the library as it once again welcomes the public into its doors, but this time, into a new and improved space.

The branch shut down in April of 2023 for much needed repairs and renovations. Some of the new features include LED ceiling lights, new flooring, and a new circulation desk.

Erica Galloway, Director of Tazewell County Public Library, says she is so thrilled to see so much support from the community, who understand the need for libraries.

“Some people think that libraries aren’t relevant anymore because we have the digital age, but print is still relevant and libraries are extremely relevant as a place to connect as a community,” says Galloway.

The library services people of every age, but especially children. The Youth Services Librarian says she is thrilled to foster the love of reading in the younger set.

“We’ve created spaces within this room for exploration and play. We have a little kitchen set for kids and dollhouse and all of that really contributes to language learning,” says Lisa Tyson, Youth Services Librarian for the Tazewell branch of the Tazewell County Public Library.

New renovations are contributing to a foundation of learning to last for generations.

The Tazewell branch opens at 9 a.m. Monday through Saturday, closing at 5:30 p.m. each day, except for Thursday, when closing time is 8 p.m. and Saturday, when closing time is 1 p.m. For more information, you can view their website here.
