CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. (KPTV/Gray News) – A woman in Oregon who disappeared with her two dogs was found dead weeks after she filed for divorce from her husband, according to authorities.
Susan Lane-Fournier, 61, was believed to have gone on a hike with her two dogs.
She was first reported missing on Nov. 22, after she didn’t show up for work.
On Nov. 23, a community member found her pickup truck parked near East Salmon River Road and the Green Canyon Way Trail south of Welches.
This led to a multi-day search and rescue operation.
On Friday, Lane-Fournier’s body was found. Her body was found near a property the couple owned in Brightwood, according to divorce filings.
After further investigation, officials determined that she died by homicide.
Shortly after her body was found, detectives arrested 71-year-old Michel Fournier. He was charged with one count of second-degree murder.
Officials said Lane-Fournier and Michel Fournier were married at the time of her death. However, Lane-Fournier had filed for divorce just two weeks before disappearing.
Khalid Kamahwe worked with Lane-Fournier at Hoodland Bazaar in Brightwood.
Kamahwe said Lane-Fournier was “afraid for her life.”
“Last couple weeks before she was missing she was afraid for her life, actually, which is why she brought the dogs with her all the time,” Kamahwe said.
Authorities recovered two bodies believed to be of Lane-Fournier’s dogs.
The bodies were transferred to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office to confirm their identities.
Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen Michel Fournier in the days before her disappearance or who has information about what he did or where he went over the last week.
