Swedish football icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic will reportedly spearhead AC Milan’s efforts to try to sign Bologna skipper Lewis Ferguson in January.
The Scotland star – who recently returned from a serious injury suffered back in April – only penned a new deal with I Rossoblù last month that extended his stay at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara until 2028 after attracting interest from Serie A big boys Milan, Juventus and Napoli with his stellar displays in Italy’s top tier. But according to MilanLive.it, the San Siro giants will now renew their attempts to try to land the ex Aberdeen and Hamilton Accies midfielder, with legendary forward Ibrahimovic set to play an active role.
The ex Barcelona, Juventus and Manchester United goal machine finally hung up his boots at Milan at the end of the 2022/23 season, but returned to San Siro last year after the club’s owners RedBird Capital Partners handed him a ‘senior advisory’ role with the Rossoneri. The extent of the 43-year-old’s influence at Milan remains unclear, but in typical Zlatan fashion, the towering Swede replied: “I am the boss and I am in charge, all the others work for me,” when asked about his official capacity earlier this year.
Earlier this week, Ferguson’s agent revealed that the 25-year-old has no intention of leaving Bologna, with sides from the English Premier League also keeping tabs on the 12-time Scotland cap. Speaking to calciomercato, he said: “We know that there was interest in the Premier League before the injury, but Lewis doesn’t feel he’s done in Serie A yet.
“It will always be rumored that Juve and other clubs are looking for him. He is proud to be the captain of Bologna and he will continue to give 100 percent to the club.
“Lewis is a dedicated professional with huge ambitions. He has great self-belief and knows exactly what he wants to achieve in football. No doubt, Lewis will raise his level this season.”
Aberdeen will be watching on with interest, having inserted a 15 per cent sell on clause into the player’s next transfer. Ferguson has scored 13 goals in 69 matches for Vicenzio Italiano’s team.
