PRINCETON, W.Va. – Princeton Senior High School’s Madrigal Choir filled the Princeton Public Library with music on Tuesday. The group’s choral director said it’s the culmination of three months of hard prep-work, leaving these students with a wide range of songs in their repertoire.
The students we spoke with both said there’s one song from the program that is their favorite.“‘The Lord Bless You and Keep You’ has always been my favorite. I think it’s a very beautiful song. It’s very touching. I get emotional every time I sing it,” said Calum Powell, a member of the Madrigal Choir. “Beautiful piece, I love it. I think it’s moving. It’s always been my favorite.” “I think my personal favorite is ‘The Lord Bless You and Keep You’. That’s another one of our traditional pieces. I just think it represents us and the symbol that we stand for as a choir,” adds Wyatt Stanley, Madrigal Choir singer and Student Body President of Princeton Senior High School. It’s this kind of appreciation and respect for their craft that the group’s choral director, Sam Shelton, said allows these young vocalists to spread the holiday spirit year after year:
The Madrigals will celebrate its 70th anniversary next year, and students said they are grateful for all the support from the community.
The Madrigal Choir is set for another performance later this month at Princeton Senior High School’s Feast of Sweets on Dec. 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m.
